Psych!
Yeah, maybe you guessed it…
or you just know…
but we are sadly (or thankfully?) not a real delivery company. We are a bunch of app-based delivery couriers, past and present, who have joined up with filmmakers to make a fictional film about our experiences in the delivery work sector. Dingzapp is the company in our movie!
Our project, Rolling Together, is made up of delivery workers from various companies, primarily from a migrant background, alongside experienced crew members (also mainly migrants) who are mentoring participants. Along our filmmaking journey we have also been joined by artists, activists, researchers, friends and comrades. The backbone of this project is collaborative. We aim for a non-hierarchical and participatory filmmaking process and are aware we must constantly bring attention to our class, background, gender and other privileges.
For the last months we have been working on the script for the film together, combining a lot of our experiences and skills to create a story we believe can make an impact.
“We follow Raahi, a young South Asian student delivery worker for dingzapp.de who gets
a letter from the immigration authorities which threatens his visa status. In order
to secure his stay in Germany, he must get a paper from his boss… but who is his
boss? We follow Raahi through Berlin as he tries to
find out who he works for.”
The resulting 20 minute film will be used as a tool for organizing discussions about working-class life, migrant labour, and solidarity. Through screenings and community events, the film will act as a springboard for wider political conversations and aims to serve as a means of empowerment for delivery workers.
